Empowering Young People to Make Informed Choices

Date:

Tuesday, January 27, 2015 - 8:45am to 4:00pm

On Tuesday 27th January the Academy hosted a launch event which featured a ‘Theatre In Education’ piece which focussed on the issues surrounding Child Exploitation (CSE).  Students in Year 7, 8 and 9 were presented with an outstanding piece of drama which focussed entirely on making positive choices and taking responsibility for your own actions.

The Academy also hosted professionals from other agencies including Social Workers, Education Welfare Officers, PSHE Leads from fellow Rotherham Secondary Schools and representatives from Health.

At Wingfield Academy we pride ourselves on offering multiple opportunities to gain an insight into social, moral and spiritual issues.  We know that by far the best way of empowering young people it make informed decisions about the lives (including behaviour and health choices) is to present them with ‘real life’ scenarios and encourage them to reflect on decisions made ‘may’ impact on their lives.

The drama was thought-provoking and at times deeply moving, our students were captivated!
