Model United Nations

Autumn 2012 saw students from years 9 and 10 begin participation in a Model United Nations programme in collaboration with Schools Linking Network and RMBC. Working in delegations with students from other Rotherham secondary schools, country profiles and position papers have been discussed and written in preparation for a 'General Assembly' debate in Rotherham Council Chamber on topics including 'the Ongoing conflict in Syria', 'the future of Afghanistan' and currently 'the conflict in Ukraine'.

In June 2013 year 7 and 8 students took part in our first 'in-house' MUN. Planned and facilitated by students from years 9,10 and 11, 'the Syrian refugee crisis - should the UN do more?' was the topic for discussion. This was followed in March 2014 by a similar in-house MUN, 'progress towards Millennium Development Goal 2'.
