Course Description

PSHCEE/SMSC brings together personal, social and health education, work-related learning, careers, enterprise, and financial capability. There are two new non-statutory programmes of study at Key Stages 3 and 4: personal wellbeing, and economic wellbeing and financial capability. PSHCEE/SMSC involves understanding risk in both positive and negative terms and the ability to manage risk in relation to relationships, health, finance, enterprise and career choices. The PSHCEE/SMSC curriculum focuses on two main concepts, personal wellbeing and economic wellbeing.

The key concepts for PSHCEE/SMSC education in personal wellbeing are:

  • Personal identities
  • Healthy lifestyles – including exercise, smoking and alcohol
  • Risk - including road safety, homelessness, gun and knife crime, sexual exploitation
  • Relationships
  • Diversity

The key concepts in economic wellbeing and financial capability are:

  • Career
  • Capability
  • Risk
  • Economic understanding.

The skills developed in PSHCEE include:
